Dust Devil is a roaming boss that can appear during Act 1 and Act 2 through random events, making it an optional encounter that players may face at various points in their run. Unlike area-locked bosses, Dust Devil can show up anywhere, and failing his event triggers the fight. Successfully handling his event can potentially recruit him to your party instead. His fight is built around mobility, displacement, and persistent environmental hazards that transform the arena over time.

Dust Devil has two primary attacks. Bite is a close-range attack that damages an adjacent unit. Tornado is his signature move: he dashes across the map and leaves a persistent tornado behind at his starting tile. If Dust Devil collides with something during the dash, he spins and hurls all adjacent units and objects in random directions up to 3 tiles away. The tornados left behind remain as permanent hazards, meaning the arena becomes progressively more dangerous as the fight continues. Each dash adds another tornado to the board, shrinking the safe space your cats can occupy.

Spacing and displacement avoidance are the keys to this fight. Keep your team spread to minimize the number of cats caught by a single spin collision, and avoid ending turns near existing tornado tiles. Classes with high mobility can reposition out of danger zones quickly after being hurled by his collision effect. The fight becomes more chaotic as tornado count increases, so ending it quickly before the arena fills up is preferable to drawn-out attrition. His boss description is a reference to the song "Dust Devil" by the Butthole Surfers.
