Enemy
Korbee
Movement: 4
The Korbee is one of the strangest enemies in The Caves, a grey fetal creature covered in tumors that uses a vacuum-based attack to swallow and spit units across the battlefield. With 12 HP, 0 base damage, and 4 movement, the Korbee does not rely on direct damage at all. Instead, it disrupts your formation by inhaling cats and launching them as projectiles, scattering your carefully positioned party. Its internal development name was "Kirby Fetus," a clear reference to Nintendo's Kirby and the signature suck-and-spit combat ability.
The Korbee approaches targets along cardinal directions and, once aligned, initiates its suction attack at infinite range. It vacuums the target in, temporarily removing them from the battlefield, then spits them out as far away as possible in the opposite direction. The displacement alone is disruptive, but the real danger is that the launched unit can collide with other cats or obstacles, potentially dealing damage on impact. Remarkably, the Korbee can swallow enemies of any size, including boss-level opponents, and occasionally retains swallowed units without expelling them, effectively removing them from combat entirely.
Since the Korbee only attacks along cardinal axes, the simplest counter is diagonal positioning: cats placed diagonally from the Korbee cannot be targeted by its suction. Its 0 base damage means it poses no direct combat threat, so the priority is preventing it from scattering your formation at critical moments. Champions have 24 HP and 5 movement, giving them more opportunities to line up their suction attacks. In mixed encounters, the Korbee's displacement can actually work in your favor if it flings dangerous enemies away from your cats, though relying on this is risky.
