Marshmallow is a Medic/Cleric-class cat miniboss with 64 HP, 5 damage, 3 movement, and 5 Luck, found in The Desert. She represents the Cleric archetype among the four Desert minibosses, each mirroring a different player class. Marshmallow is one of the most deceptively dangerous minibosses in the game, not because of raw damage output but because of her ability to turn the player's own cats against them through Charm.
Marshmallow's primary attack is Convert, a close-range lick that charms adjacent units and forces them to immediately take a turn attacking their former allies before the charm wears off. She starts battle with 2 Holy Shields that negate the first two damage instances dealt to her, making round-one elimination very difficult. Her turn pattern follows a cycle: Turn 1 she moves toward a target and attempts to charm it; Turn 2 she attacks normally or attempts another charm; Turn 3 she uses Zealot to grant herself another Holy Shield, then attacks. If the charmed cat is the party's last standing member, both Marshmallow and that cat will automatically flee, which counts as a defeat, and the charmed cat joins her in future encounters.
Maintaining distance is critical against Marshmallow since her charm only works at adjacent range. Use weak summons or slowing tiles to block her approach and prevent close-range contact. Melee units like Fighters and Tanks should avoid advancing early, as walking into her charm range can result in your strongest cat being turned against the rest of your party. Ranged attackers and casters who can chip through her Holy Shields from safety are ideal. Focus on stripping her shields first, then burst her down before she can Zealot for another. Marshmallow has Champion and Robo variants.
