Inspired by Ophiocordyceps — the real fungus that hijacks ant behavior — this head parasite exerts its will at the start of every turn. The StatusEachTurnBegin passive applies a status effect at the beginning of each turn before the wearer acts, potentially stacking debuffs or triggering transformation effects as the infection progresses. The turn-by-turn rhythm makes Cordyceps a strong pick in longer battles where its repeated procs accumulate into significant total pressure, especially if the applied status compounds over multiple applications.

Turn-start status effects trigger before the wearer's action, meaning the parasite's contribution precedes the cat's turn. If the status applied is a buff to the wearer, that buff is already active when they attack or cast. If it applies a debuff to an enemy target, that debuff lands before the wearer's action resolves. The compounding value across multiple turns makes Cordyceps stronger the longer a fight lasts.

Cordyceps is most valuable on cats that participate in every fight and stay alive for multiple turns. Its turn-start procs create diminishing uncertainty in short fights — if a battle lasts only 2 turns, there are only 2 trigger opportunities. In longer boss fights or attrition battles, the accumulated triggers can be decisive. It pairs naturally with other turn-rhythm items that also trigger on turn start or stack effects over time.
