The Box

The Box is a rare trinket that applies a status effect after each battle ends. As with other StatusOnBattleEnd trinkets, this rewards you for winning rather than activating during combat — every fight you clear stacks another application of the status onto your cat. One of several box-themed items with varying mechanics; this variant is the passive accumulation one.

Post-battle status effects typically persist between fights as lasting buffs or debuffs rather than wearing off at the start of the next encounter. If the status stacks, each won battle builds higher and higher, creating a compounding reward for victory over time. If the status is refreshed rather than stacked, it simply keeps the effect up as long as you keep winning. The lack of any combat interaction means The Box contributes zero value during fights and all of its value between them. This is a fundamentally different relationship to the item than most combat trinkets.

The Box is most valuable in long runs with many fights, where the status accumulates over dozens of battle completions. Identify what the status does before committing the trinket slot: a stacking damage buff becomes incredibly strong late in a run, while a temporary situational buff may not justify the rare slot cost. Combine with items that extend status duration or amplify the specific status type The Box applies. Players who clear encounters efficiently and consistently will see the full value; anyone who struggles and resets frequently misses the compounding benefit entirely.
