Muted

{stacks} of your spells are disabled until {applier} dies.

Muted is a spell-disabling debuff that prevents the afflicted unit from casting specific spells. The leftmost spell in the unit's spell bar is disabled first, and additional stacks disable subsequent spells alternating left to right. Muted persists until the unit that applied it is killed, creating a direct incentive to prioritize the source of the Mute effect. This is one of the few debuffs with a specific removal condition tied to killing a particular enemy.

The sequential spell disabling mechanic means that the order of spells in a cat's loadout matters when facing Mute-applying enemies. Your most critical spells should ideally not be in the leftmost position if Mute sources are common in the encounter. With enough stacks, Muted can disable an entire spell bar, leaving the unit with only basic attacks and movement. This is devastating for spellcaster builds that rely on their abilities for damage and utility.

When facing Mute-applying enemies, the priority should be killing the source to restore all muted spells at once. Basic attacks and non-muted spells can still be used while partially muted, so builds with strong basic attacks are more resilient to this debuff. Muted does not affect basic attacks or movement, only spell casting. In team compositions, having at least one cat focused on physical attacks provides insurance against Mute-heavy encounters where spell access is unreliable.
