Plague
Highly contagious illness that spreads rapidly between cats sharing a room. Drains health and can cause death if untreated.
Plague is the most dangerous disease in Mewgenics due to its highly contagious nature. Once a single cat contracts Plague, it can spread rapidly to every other cat sharing the same room, potentially wiping out an entire roster if not caught early. The speed of transmission makes Plague the number one reason to regularly check on your cats between runs and to maintain quarantine-ready room setups.
Plague drains health aggressively and can kill cats faster than the standard Sick condition. It tends to emerge in rooms with poor Health ratings, similar to Sick, but its contagious property transforms a manageable problem into a crisis. Cats housed together in cramped, low-quality rooms are essentially a Plague outbreak waiting to happen. The moment you spot the Plague indicator on any cat, immediately isolate it by moving it to a separate room before treating it.
Curing Plague requires healing abilities or quarantining infected cats in high-Health rooms. Prevention is far easier than treatment: invest in room Health upgrades early, avoid overcrowding rooms, and keep a spare isolation room available for emergencies. Players who breed aggressively without upgrading their living spaces will learn the hard way that Plague can undo hours of progress in a matter of minutes. Experienced players treat Plague prevention as a core part of cattery management rather than an afterthought.
