Air Horn

Sidequest

Air Horn is a dangerous sidequest weapon — carrying it causes the player to be ambushed at the start of every battle. The weapon itself makes noise, attracting trouble wherever it goes. Complete the Air Horn sidequest to earn the Amplified Air Horn, which applies Madness to an enemy within line of sight once per battle without the ambush drawback.

Ambushed means the enemy gets to act before your party at the start of battle, effectively losing the initiative advantage that good positioning would otherwise provide. Against fast or hit-hard enemies, being ambushed can result in one or more cats being downed before they get a turn. The weapon provides no combat benefit of its own, making this a pure liability to carry for the duration of the sidequest.

Carry Air Horn on a cat who is not your main frontline aggressor, and compensate for the ambush by building your party around surviving the opening enemy salvo. Fast cats with high SPD can act early even when ambushed due to initiative, somewhat mitigating the penalty. Complete the sidequest as fast as possible — every battle you fight ambushed is a fight you are at a disadvantage, and the Amplified Air Horn upgrade is worth the pain.
