Frank

Frank is the contractor of your cat operation, an architect who lives in the Sewers and built the player character's house. Available right after completing the tutorial, he accepts Retired Cats, meaning any cat that has returned from at least one adventure, regardless of how far it traveled. His four upgrades each add a new room to your house, scaling from 1 retired cat for the first room up to 100 cats for the fourth, with a cumulative total of 176 cats needed to fully max him out. Each room provides additional storage space for furniture and cats, growing from 144 total storage spaces at level 1 to 584 at level 4.

More rooms mean more breeding pairs you can maintain simultaneously, dramatically increasing your ability to produce specialized cats and lock in favorable genetics. Since each room comfortably houses around 4 cats before comfort penalties kick in, Frank is essential for scaling your operation beyond the early game. His upgrade requirements are among the easiest to meet among NPCs because any cat that has been on even one adventure qualifies, making him a natural dump for cats you do not plan to keep. Prioritize leveling Frank alongside Butch early on, since both storage space and house capacity bottleneck your overall growth.

Frank is also one of the most lore-rich characters in Mewgenics. He considers himself "retired," which is why he wants the company of retired cats. Mentally childlike and very literal-minded, he does not understand that the word "tip" also refers to advice. He uses plural pronouns like "we" and "our" when referring to himself, hinting at the game's major reveal: the small knob on his back, called Frank's Bean, is heavily implied to be the true intelligence controlling the body. After Frank's death later in the story, the Bean burrows into Dr. Beanies' corpse and reanimates it, adopting Frank's speech patterns and calling the player "Mommy." His name may reference Frankenstein or frankfurter sausages, fitting his cobbled-together nature.
