Overview
Rat King is a tanky mid-chapter boss in The Sewers who wins through attrition. His personal attacks are modest, but he continuously summons waves of rats that flood the arena. If you focus entirely on the Rat King while ignoring his adds, the board fills with enemies and your cats take relentless chip damage from all sides. The fight is as much a board-control challenge as a single-target DPS race.
Key Mechanics
Rat Swarm Summoning
Rat King summons rats every round or two, gradually filling the board. Individual rats are weak but there are many of them. Left uncleared, they can block movement, interrupt your cats’ actions, and add up to significant passive damage over a long fight.
High HP
Rat King himself has very high HP for his stage in the game. You cannot simply ignore the rats and focus him down quickly. A long fight is expected, and sustain matters.
Recommended Team Composition
Area-of-effect abilities are the key tool here. Mage spells that hit multiple tiles, bouncing projectiles, and chain abilities can clear several rats per action. A Cleric or healing source helps manage the sustained chip damage. One dedicated damage dealer focused on Rat King ensures the boss himself is also losing HP while you manage adds.
Step-by-Step Strategy
1. Bring AoE or bouncing abilities specifically for rat control. This is the most important preparation step.
2. Maintain board control first. Every round, clear enough rats to keep your movement paths open and your cats unstunned.
3. Assign one cat to focus Rat King exclusively. While the rest of the party clears adds, this cat chips away at his HP.
4. Only switch to full boss focus once the board is under control and rat density is low. Trying to burst Rat King while surrounded by a dozen rats usually ends badly.
