SubUndying is the internal resurrection mechanic that pairs with the Undying elite buff. It grants a 100% chance to revive the enemy at 50% health at the end of the round, applying the Zombie status upon revival. Zombie inflicts -2 Strength and -2 Intelligence on the revived enemy and inverts Holy healing effects. The revived enemy comes back weakened but still functional, requiring your team to kill it a second time.
SubUndying guarantees at least one extra kill required per Undying elite. You must kill the enemy, wait for it to revive as a Zombie, and then kill it again. This doubles the effective time investment per enemy and can drain your team's resources in extended encounters. The Zombie status does weaken the revived enemy significantly with -2 Strength and -2 Intelligence, but it still retains its abilities and can deal meaningful damage. In multi-enemy fights, the revived Zombie occupying a tile and taking actions is a significant distraction.
Plan to kill each Undying elite twice. Reserve resources for the second kill and do not spend everything on the first death. The Zombie debuffs make the revived enemy easier to kill, so your second takedown should be faster. Holy-element damage is extra effective against Zombie-status enemies since the inversion works against them. Overkill damage or effects that prevent revival can bypass the mechanic entirely if available. Time your kills so the revival happens at a moment when your team has actions remaining to finish the job immediately.
