Pebbles

Movement: 4

Pebbles is a 50 HP colorless cat miniboss who serves as the boss of The Path, the game's tutorial area. Trained by Butch, Pebbles resembles a Collarless cat and is the very first real miniboss challenge players face. With 2 damage, 4 movement, and 3 Luck, he introduces the miniboss encounter format while teaching core combat mechanics like knockback, projectile attacks, and environmental hazards. The fight's outcome is effectively predetermined: one player cat will be downed, but the tutorial cannot result in a game over.

Pebbles has three distinct attacks. His Push attack is a two-tile melee strike that moves him forward one tile while applying knockback to whatever he hits, functioning identically to the Tank class's default attack but also working diagonally. Rock Toss is a lobbed projectile targeting cats 3 to 5 tiles away, leaving a rock on the battlefield after impact. His most dramatic move is Boulder Drop: when his health runs low and both player cats are still standing, he drops a boulder dealing 999 damage onto the cat with the lowest HP, instantly downing it. The Robotic variant targets a 3-tile radius with a one-turn warning instead.

Since the tutorial fight cannot result in a game over (attacks will automatically miss if they would down the last remaining cat or damage a downed cat's body), Pebbles functions primarily as a teaching tool. If combat exceeds 9 rounds, Pebbles automatically flees. He introduces rock manipulation mechanics that become central to later encounters, serving as a mechanical precursor to tougher rock-themed enemies like Rocky Bobo. His internal designation as "Colorless Cat" links him to the system of class-themed minibosses like Magnus, Fenrir, and Lucy, each representing a different player class archetype.
