Enemy
Spider Cat
Movement: 6
The Spider Cat is a hit-and-run predator found in the Caves chapter. It enters combat already at half health but compensates through Lifesteal — its melee attack heals it for the amount of damage dealt, allowing it to sustain itself through combat if left unchecked. After each attack it moves away, making it difficult to lock down in melee. It is also immune to all tile-based effects, so water, tar, and other terrain hazards have no impact on its movement.
With 14 HP and damage 7, the Spider Cat hits hard for a standard enemy. The post-attack retreat combined with tile immunity makes it very hard to use environmental traps or terrain control against it. The Spider Kitten variant uses web immobilization instead of direct strikes, webbing targets before draining their HP and also being immune to webs itself.
Ranged attackers are the best counter to the Spider Cat, since chasing it into melee lets it repeatedly attack and heal while retreating. Abilities that can interrupt movement or prevent the retreat are valuable if you want to finish it in melee. Bleed is particularly effective against Lifesteal enemies since the damage over time bypasses the sustain mechanic. Kill the Spider Cat early — if it gets several rounds of healing off, it can fully restore from half HP and become a sustained drain on your team.
