Bleed
Takes {stacks} damage at the end of the round, then increase Bleed by 1.
Bleed is one of the most dangerous damage-over-time debuffs in Mewgenics, dealing 1 damage per stack at the end of each round. What makes Bleed especially threatening is its escalation mechanic: every round, the stack count increases by 1 automatically, meaning even a small initial application snowballs into lethal damage if not dealt with. Bleed damage ignores both Shield and Holy Shield, making it impossible to block through conventional defensive means. If a cat is downed while bleeding, it sustains the Exsanguinated injury, permanently losing 1 Strength and 1 Dexterity.
Bleed can be applied by a wide variety of sources. Cats with the Serrated Claws buff inflict Bleed on each basic attack, and the Bleed Thorns status causes Bleed on contact when enemies attack in melee or collide via knockback. Many enemy types and abilities also apply Bleed stacks directly. Certain items and abilities in Rogue and melee-focused builds interact heavily with Bleed, making it a central mechanic for damage-focused strategies. The Bloodzerked buff pairs powerfully with Bleed, healing the attacker for the full amount of health damage dealt to a bleeding target.
Because Bleed bypasses shields and escalates each round, it becomes increasingly dangerous as fights drag on. The Brace status effect can reduce Bleed damage (minimum 1 per tick), offering some mitigation. Cleansing effects can remove Bleed stacks entirely, and downing the source of Bleed sometimes halts further application. In general, prioritizing enemies that apply Bleed and ending fights quickly are the best strategies for dealing with this debuff. Bleed-heavy builds on your own cats can be extremely effective against tanky enemies and bosses who rely on Shield stacking for survival.
