The Tapeworm is a parasite trinket that siphons nutrients from the host's gut, applying CON -2 in exchange for a passive that adds a status effect to every basic attack. It is one of several worm parasites that trade survivability stats for offensive augmentation, and the trinket slot makes it easy to combine with other parasite items across different equipment slots.
AddStatusToBasicAttack functions the same way here as on the Ringworm — each basic attack delivers a secondary status condition to the target. The trinket slot has no impact on attack style, so this passive works on any build regardless of weapon type. The CON -2 penalty reduces total health, making it a riskier choice for low-health characters. On builds with high base CON, the trade-off is much more favorable.
Since the Tapeworm occupies the trinket slot, it layers cleanly with Ringworm (face) or other status-on-hit items to double-stack status applications per attack. High-CON classes like Warriors or tanks can absorb the health loss without much concern. Comparatively, Ringworm delivers the same passive type but hits CHA instead of CON — choose based on which stat your build can better afford to lose.
