The spiders infesting this pop out when it dies, destroying its corpse.
Infested is a debuff that triggers on the afflicted unit's death, destroying its corpse and spawning 1 Spiderling per stack. These Spiderlings fight for the team that applied the Infestation, turning the infested unit's death into a tactical advantage for its opponents. The effect does not trigger until the unit actually dies, making it a delayed-threat mechanic.
Champion-tier units that die while Infested spawn Champion Spiderlings, which are significantly more dangerous than normal ones. The Infestation weather variant changes the spawned creatures from Spiderlings to Maggots or Flies. The corpse destruction mechanic means infested units cannot be revived or have their corpses interacted with after death.
When your cats are Infested, cleansing the debuff before death prevents the spawns entirely. When applied to enemies, Infested is a bonus: killing the enemy removes it from the fight and replaces it with allied units. The Elite Buff variant of Infested causes enemies to spawn fly swarms on death, functioning as a similar posthumous threat-generation mechanic.
