Infestation

Infestation is a creature-spawn weather effect in Mewgenics where every non-tiny unit that dies explodes into a swarm of maggots or flies. This creates a cascading chain reaction where killing enemies generates new enemies, making the total threat on the battlefield grow with every successful kill.

The mechanic is disorienting at first. You eliminate a tough enemy, expecting the fight to get easier, and instead 3 or 4 hostile insects spawn in its place. If you then AoE those insects, they might also spawn more tiny creatures when they die (though tiny units do not trigger the effect, which prevents infinite loops). The net result is that fights under Infestation feel like they are getting harder instead of easier as you progress through them.

AoE abilities are the essential tool for managing Infestation. When a cluster of newly spawned insects appears, a single AoE ability can sweep them all in one action. Without AoE, you spend multiple turns cleaning up insects one by one, which bleeds time and resources. Ranged builds also benefit by staying out of the thick of the spawn clusters, since insects tend to appear directly where the original enemy died.

Planning for longer fights is important under Infestation. Even with efficient AoE clears, the extra spawns add turns to every encounter. Budget your healing and mana accordingly, and be mindful of the Exhaustion timer at turn 10.

Infestation can appear in any biome and is classified as an uncommon weather. It rewards teams with strong AoE coverage and punishes single-target-focused compositions.
