Overview
Radical Rat is one of the two possible final bosses of The Alley and serves as the primary gate to The Sewers and The Junkyard. His fight is built around an explosive bombing pattern paired with a brief invulnerable hiding phase. Players who do not understand the bomb mechanic will lose cats to preventable explosions. Once you know the pattern, the fight becomes very manageable.
Key Mechanics
Bomb Throw
Radical Rat’s primary action is throwing bombs onto tiles near your party. Each bomb has exactly 1 HP, explodes in a cross (plus) pattern after a one-turn delay, and deals heavy damage to any cat standing in the blast radius. Because bombs only have 1 HP, any basic attack or ability that targets a tile will destroy them instantly. Destroying bombs before they detonate is always the highest-priority action.
Bucket Invulnerability
After his bombing phase Radical Rat hides under a bucket, becoming fully invulnerable for that turn. Use this downtime to reposition your cats, heal if needed, and close distance for the next damage window. Do not waste abilities on him while he is under the bucket.
Recommended Team Composition
At least one reliable ranged attacker is essential for destroying bombs from a safe distance. Hunter is ideal. A second damage dealer with area abilities can help clear multiple bombs at once. A Cleric or any healing ability is useful for sustain across the longer fight, especially on later Alley clears.
Step-by-Step Strategy
1. Field at least one ranged unit and assign them to bomb disposal. Their entire job in this fight is to shoot incoming bombs before the round ends.
2. Do not cluster your cats. Radical Rat aims bombs at groups, and a single bomb in the centre of a cluster can detonate and damage all of them. Spread formation reduces the risk of chain-wipe.
3. When he hides under the bucket, treat it as a free setup turn. Move cats into attacking positions, use healing items, and prepare your strongest abilities for his return.
4. When he emerges, hit him with your hardest damage before he bombs again. The fight is a repeating bomb-then-hide loop, so every emerging phase is a DPS window.
Drops
Confirmed drops include Meek Stone necklaces and Mushroom trinkets, though loot is random per run. Clearing Radical Rat opens the path to The Sewers and The Junkyard, expanding your options for the next Act 1 chapter.
