Hypersomnia causes your cat to start each battle asleep but with full health. The sleep state means your cat is unconscious and cannot act until woken up, typically by taking damage or after a certain number of turns. However, starting at full HP is a significant benefit, especially on cats that took damage in previous battles, effectively resetting their health pool at the cost of missing the opening turns.

Hypersomnia is heritable and can pass from parent to kitten through breeding. It can also be acquired through events or applied with a Disorder Syringe from the Organ Grinder. The full health restoration at battle start is extremely valuable for sustaining a cat through a long adventure without needing external healing. However, the sleep at battle start means enemies get free turns before your cat wakes up, potentially dealing significant damage before you can respond.

Strategically, Hypersomnia works best on tanky cats that can absorb the incoming damage while asleep and then fight at full effectiveness once they wake up. The full health reset makes it excellent for long adventures where HP attrition between battles is a concern. It interacts dangerously with Sleep Paralysis (spawns a demon when you sleep) and beneficially with Insomnia (which would prevent the sleep, though it also prevents the full heal). On cats with high Constitution, the temporary vulnerability from sleep is easily absorbed, making Hypersomnia a net positive.
