Enemy
Fly Swarm
Movement: 3
The Fly Swarm is a composite enemy found in the Desert, The Rift, and The End chapters. It is made up of five individual flies, each contributing 1 HP and 1 damage to the swarm's total. Its melee attack hits once per living fly, so a full swarm lands five hits simultaneously — making it capable of dealing burst damage comparable to much larger enemies.
Each time the swarm takes damage, one fly dies and the attack count drops by one. However, the swarm can only absorb one damage at a time — hits do not chain through multiple flies per strike. This means that despite being weak individually, the swarm must be damaged five separate times to fully eliminate, and multi-hit attacks are the most efficient way to strip flies quickly. Knocking the swarm into walls also kills flies on impact.
Multi-hit abilities are the ideal counter: each hit removes one fly, rapidly degrading the swarm's damage output. Wall collisions from knockback abilities accomplish the same thing. Avoid single-hit high-damage attacks — overkill damage is wasted since only one fly dies per hit regardless of damage dealt. Prioritizing a Fly Swarm early prevents it from landing a devastating first strike while still at full five-fly strength.
