Stegosaurus
Movement: 2
Stegosaurus is a Jurassic herbivore that is deceptively dangerous despite its passive-sounding grazing behavior. It appears in The Jurassic chapter and combines defensive mechanics with sustained self-healing, making it a protracted threat that grows more annoying the longer it survives. Its Trample ability lets it damage units it moves through, and it counterattacks any unit that strikes it from behind.
Each turn, the Stegosaurus opens with a spin attack that hits all adjacent units. It then actively seeks out grass tiles to graze, healing 5 HP from tall grass or 2 HP from short grass. This grazing mechanic gives it substantial sustain in arenas with natural vegetation, effectively undoing chip damage between rounds. The rear counterattack mechanic means flanking is unusually risky: always attack from the front or sides, never from behind.
The most effective counter is removing grass tiles from the arena to starve it of healing. Fire-based abilities that burn vegetation are particularly useful, as they deny the Stegosaurus's sustain while potentially dealing damage. If grass removal is not possible, focus high-damage burst attacks to outdamage its healing rather than chipping it down slowly. Position your cats to avoid the start-of-turn spin attack and never attack from behind.
