Injury
Concussion
INT -1
Concussion is a Basic Injury in Mewgenics that permanently reduces a cat's Intelligence (INT) by 1. Like all Basic Injuries, it leaves a visible scar on the affected cat, with Concussion specifically placing its scar on the head.
Concussion can be applied in two ways. The most common is when a cat is downed during combat, at which point the game selects a random injury from the Basic Injuries pool. It can also be applied through certain events, such as Cat Fights in the House. On its own, a single Concussion is relatively minor, but repeated instances can stack up and noticeably weaken builds that scale with Intelligence.
Concussion does not heal over time. It is permanent unless removed by a specific effect that heals injuries. There is no passive recovery, so prevention through careful positioning and avoiding unnecessary downs is the best strategy for cats that rely heavily on INT.
Thick Skull Synergy
Concussion has a unique interaction with Thick Skull, a passive Fighter ability. Thick Skull converts all injuries a cat receives into Concussions and grants +3 Shield for each Concussion the cat has, capping at 30 Shield. The upgraded version, Thick Skull+, also grants +1 Strength per Concussion, capping at 10 Strength. This turns what is normally a punishment into a powerful defensive and offensive scaling tool, making Concussion the centerpiece of a dedicated Fighter build.
The Osteogenesis Imperfecta trait doubles the number of Concussions a cat receives every time it is downed, which can accelerate the Thick Skull build even further at the cost of significant INT loss.
Immortal Interaction
The Immortal disorder reduces all damage a cat takes to 1 but applies a random injury each time damage is dealt. When paired with Thick Skull, every point of damage converts into a Concussion, rapidly stacking Shield and Strength while keeping the cat alive through its damage reduction. This combination is one of the more well-known synergies in Mewgenics and allows Fighters to become extremely durable over the course of a long fight.
