Furniture Box

The Furniture Box is a rare item with +8 Shield and -5 Speed. When the Shield is fully depleted, it transforms into a random piece of furniture at your home. The item doesn't need to be equipped to trigger the transformation — carrying it in your inventory is enough. It's a guaranteed second-choice reward on Hard Paths past The Alley, and if you die while carrying one, the Mystery Man allows you to claim it and the furniture conversion still happens.

The -5 Speed penalty is severe — the largest negative speed value on a single item — so equipping it on an active combat cat is a real sacrifice. It's more useful on slow tank cats who weren't moving aggressively anyway, or held unequipped if you just want the furniture without paying the speed cost during combat.

The most practical approach is to equip it on your slowest, tankiest cat who benefits from the +8 Shield and won't miss the -5 Speed as much. Let them absorb hits to deplete the Shield and trigger the furniture drop, which then adds home value. If survival is a concern for that cat, hold the Furniture Box unequipped instead — the transformation still triggers when the box is destroyed through other means. Avoid equipping it on Speed-dependent cats like Ninjas or flankers where -5 SPD would severely impact performance.
