Jagged shards embedded in the wielder's paw, turning every swipe into a status-laden exchange. Paw Shards apply a status effect to the target on hit via AddStatusToBasicAttack, and simultaneously apply a different status to the wielder through AddSelfStatusToBasicAttack. This double-trigger makes every basic attack a complicated transaction — potentially buffing the wielder while debuffing the enemy, or stacking harmful conditions on both. Best on cats who can benefit from self-inflicted statuses, such as those with mutations or abilities that trigger on specific status conditions.
The dual-trigger mechanic is what sets Paw Shards apart from simpler status-on-hit weapons. AddStatusToBasicAttack targets the enemy with each swing, while AddSelfStatusToBasicAttack simultaneously applies a separate effect to the wearer. If the self-status is a buff (like Rage, Haste, or a stacking damage bonus), the weapon essentially provides both offensive output and self-amplification in one action. If the self-status is harmful, the weapon becomes a risk-reward tool that rewards builds with status immunity or conversion.
Pairs strongly with builds that proc off self-status conditions — mutations or passives that trigger on Bleed, Rage, or other self-applied effects turn every attack into a chain reaction. High-attack-rate builds maximize the number of triggers per round. Combining with Ringworm or Tapeworm (AddStatusToBasicAttack items) adds another status layer to the outgoing hit, creating multi-status applications per swing. Best avoided if the self-status is harmful and the build lacks mitigation.
