Overgrowth

Overgrowth is an environmental weather effect in Mewgenics that fills the battlefield with extra Tall Grass and bramble (thornbush) tiles. This additional vegetation fundamentally changes combat dynamics by providing abundant cover and creating new movement hazards.

Tall Grass is one of the most powerful terrain features in Mewgenics. Any unit standing in Tall Grass gains a 50% dodge chance, effectively halving the number of attacks that connect. For Stealth and Rogue builds, which already have dodge-enhancing passives, Overgrowth can push their evasion rates to absurd levels. A Rogue cat standing in Tall Grass during Overgrowth can become nearly untouchable by conventional attacks.

Bramble tiles (thornbushes) are the downside of Overgrowth. These tiles deal damage to any unit that walks through them, creating movement hazards that punish careless pathing. Melee cats that need to cross the arena may find themselves taking chip damage from brambles on the way to their targets. Planning movement routes to avoid bramble patches saves health that could be critical later in the fight.

The critical interaction to watch for under Overgrowth is fire. Tall Grass is highly flammable, and a single Fire ability can ignite an entire patch, converting it from protective cover into a spreading blaze. Fire-element enemies will often ignite your Tall Grass cover, stripping away the dodge bonus and replacing it with Burn-inducing fire tiles. If you are building around the dodge advantage, keep an eye on fire threats and be ready to move your cats before the cover burns.

Conversely, you can use this interaction offensively. If enemies are hiding in Tall Grass and benefiting from the dodge bonus, a well-placed Fire ability removes their cover and potentially damages them in the process.

Overgrowth can appear in any biome and is classified as an uncommon weather. Its value depends heavily on your team composition and whether fire threats are present in the encounter.
