Mama Maggot is the mini-boss of The Boneyard in Act 1, with 125 HP, 0 ATK, and 3 Movement. Despite having no direct damage output, Mama Maggot is a summoner-type boss whose threat comes entirely from the relentless stream of maggot minions she spawns and evolves throughout the fight. She actively avoids your cats, preferring to keep her distance while her brood does the fighting for her. Left unchecked, the maggot swarm can snowball out of control and overwhelm even well-prepared teams.
Mama Maggot spends her turns spawning basic Maggots and then mutating them into three specialized upper-tier variants. Thorn Maggots set traps in spaces around their attack target, creating dangerous zones your cats must navigate around. Tunnel Maggots change random targets and locations as they move, making them unpredictable threats. Rushing Maggots charge directly at your cats for burst damage. In addition to spawning, Mama Maggot grants her maggots extra turns, accelerating their evolution and aggression. The longer the fight goes, the more dangerous the maggot army becomes.
AoE abilities are essential for this encounter. Spells and attacks that hit multiple tiles can clear maggots before they mutate into their more dangerous forms while simultaneously putting pressure on Mama Maggot herself. Focus the boss whenever the add count is manageable, since without her constant spawning, the fight becomes a straightforward damage race. Cheap, spammable attack abilities are more valuable than expensive single-target nukes here. Classes like Mage and Druid with reliable AoE options excel, and bringing a Hunter for sustained ranged pressure on Mama Maggot while your other cats handle adds is a strong team composition strategy.
