The Mother

The Mother is the final boss of The End in Act 3, Chapter 3, a horrifying organic entity that fights by expanding across the entire arena in weak, 5 HP segments. Unlike conventional bosses that attack with abilities, The Mother overwhelms through sheer mass, gradually consuming the battlefield tile by tile until there is nowhere left to stand. This makes her one of the most unique boss encounters in the game, functioning more like a spreading infection than a traditional enemy.

Every turn, The Mother's segments propagate semi-randomly to any adjacent unoccupied space, expanding one tile at a time. If left alive, individual segments gain +1 Constitution over time, becoming progressively harder to destroy. When a segment appears on a tile occupied by one of your cats, that cat becomes incapacitated and must be freed by attacking the encasing segment before The Mother devours them. The Mother also occasionally spawns a pillar underneath a cat, dealing 3 damage and hurling them toward her main body. The fight becomes increasingly claustrophobic as safe space shrinks with every round.

Crowd control and AoE damage are essential for this encounter. Area attacks and spin attacks can destroy multiple weak segments while simultaneously damaging The Mother's core. Since each segment counts as a separate unit, on-kill abilities and effects are incredibly powerful here, triggering repeatedly as you clear segments. Prioritize freeing any incapacitated cats immediately, as the devour timer is unforgiving. Balance your attention between clearing segments to maintain safe space and dealing damage to The Mother's core to end the fight. The longer the battle drags on, the harder it becomes as segments stack Constitution and available tiles shrink.
