Amoeba

Single-celled organism that splits when hit.

The Amoeba is a small but uniquely dangerous enemy found in The Crater, the volcanic impact-crater zone of Act 2. Deceptively fragile with only 3 Hit Points, it compensates through two predatory behaviors that can cripple unprepared parties: scavenging rocks for armor, and latching cursed parasite gear directly onto your cats.

Its first priority each turn is locating a rock, boulder, or petrified unit on the battlefield. Once it absorbs one, it gains Shield equal to that object's full health and its melee strikes deal matching damage — turning a harmless pebble into a deadly club. An Amoeba that finds a high-health rock early can become a surprisingly tanky threat, so destroying or denying nearby rocks before they can be claimed is a sound opening strategy.

When no rocks are available, the Amoeba turns parasitic. Its AmoebaAttach ability lets it forcibly equip one of three cursed Amoeba armor pieces — Amoeba (Face), Amoeba (Head), or Amoeba (Neck) — onto a cat it reaches in melee, destroying whatever was previously equipped in that slot. Each piece inflicts a stat penalty and +10% Miss Chance, and the real catastrophe comes if all three slots fill up: the full Amoeba set bonus saddles the cat with permanent Madness, a debilitating status that persists beyond the encounter.

Prioritize ranged attacks and tile-based effects to keep your cats out of melee range entirely. The Reap ability instantly kills non-Champion Amoebas regardless of any rock shield they've acquired. If you use abilities like Rock Toss yourself, be aware that newly created rocks give the Amoeba fresh material to arm itself. Champions have 6 HP and slightly higher movement, so they can close the gap faster — treat them as high-priority targets before they reach your back line.
