Scary is an incorporeal ghost enemy found in The Boneyard, and one of the most dangerous crowd-control threats in the entire chapter. With 14 HP, 0 damage, and 4 movement, it deals absolutely no direct damage but inflicts two of the game's most punishing status effects: Fear and Doomed. As a flying undead ghost, it moves via teleportation, bypassing all terrain and obstacles to reach any target on the battlefield. Scary can also spawn from destroyed Gravestones alongside Spookie, adding an element of surprise to encounters where terrain destruction is part of your strategy.
Scary uses two distinct melee attacks that apply Fear and Doomed (3 stacks) respectively. Fear disrupts your cat's behavior and positioning, while Doomed is a death timer that counts down each turn and kills the affected cat when it reaches zero. Three stacks of Doomed gives you only a few turns to either eliminate all enemies and end the encounter, or find a way to cleanse the status. Being incorporeal, Scary has a critical vulnerability: it dies instantly when knocked prone, making knockdown abilities an efficient one-shot counter despite its 14 HP health pool.
Eliminating Scary as quickly as possible is essential to prevent Doomed stacks from accumulating on your cats. However, there is a silver lining: a Doomed cat can survive if the battle ends before the status effect expires, and gaining additional Doomed stacks actually extends the countdown rather than accelerating it. During Dybbuk boss fights, any spawned Scary enemies will flee if the boss is defeated, so focusing the boss can clear them indirectly. Champions have 28 HP and 5 movement with the same devastating status effects, making knockdown abilities even more valuable as a way to bypass their doubled health pool entirely.
