Boss

Dybbuk

Automatically dodges all single-target attacks. Summons Wisps that require 2 hits to kill (avoid first damage instance). Two-phase: on death, possesses the killing cat — player must then kill their own ally.

Dybbuk is the final boss of The Boneyard in Act 1, a spectral entity with 85 HP, 5 ATK, and 3 SPD that may be the first genuine wall many players hit. Despite his relatively modest health pool, Dybbuk's signature mechanic makes him nearly impossible to damage through conventional means: he automatically backflips away from all single-target attacks, dodging basic melee swings, most Hunter shots, single-target Mage spells, and standard Thief abilities. Named after the possessing spirit of Jewish folklore, this boss lives up to his namesake with a terrifying possession phase on death.

Dybbuk's backflip dodge requires an unoccupied adjacent tile to execute. This means cornering him against walls, obstacles, or your own units completely disables his evasion. Hunters, Necromancers, and Druids excel at crowding the stage with familiars and summons to box him in. Area-of-effect abilities also bypass his dodge, as do damage-over-time effects like Bleed, Poison, Burn, and Leech, provided the initial application lands. Thorns damage and Soul Link-style shared damage effects work as well. The critical second phase triggers on the killing blow: Dybbuk possesses whichever cat dealt the final hit. The possessed cat turns hostile and attacks its allies until it is downed, at which point Dybbuk exits the body and can be killed normally.

Managing the possession phase is crucial. Ideally, have a weaker cat, your Cleric, or a unit with low health and movement speed land the killing blow, so the possessed cat is easy to take down without losing a key damage dealer. Alternatively, if the killing blow cat is already near death, the possession phase ends quickly. The corner strategy combined with AoE damage is the most reliable approach: push Dybbuk into a corner using knockback abilities, surround him with summons, and unleash area attacks. Dybbuk does not drop unique items, but defeating him is required to complete The Boneyard branch and advance toward Act 2 content.
