Enemy
Y-Blaster
Movement: 3
Y-Blaster is a Moon chapter enemy that functions as a motion-triggered trap rather than a conventional attacker. With 12 HP, only 1 base damage, and 3 movement, it appears unassuming at first glance. However, whenever any unit (ally or enemy) crosses a tile perpendicular to the Y-Blaster, it fires a piercing laser in that direction that hits everything in the line. Its internal codename is "Yellow Blaster," and its design likely references the yellow alien from The Behemoth's Alien Hominid (2002).
The Y-Blaster's key mechanic is its escalating damage: it gains +1 damage at the end of each turn, making it increasingly lethal as the fight drags on. By turn 5 or 6, those piercing lasers can deal serious damage to anything caught in their path. When directly threatened by a cat moving into one of its four adjacent tiles, the Y-Blaster retreats rather than fighting, making it surprisingly difficult to pin down. Its lasers hit indiscriminately, damaging both sides equally.
Controlling movement paths to avoid triggering its fire lanes is essential, especially in later turns when each laser can chunk significant HP. Corner it against walls or obstacles to prevent its retreat, then finish it off quickly. The Y-Blaster can also hatch from a Strange Egg alongside other Moon enemies like Rover, Saucie, Small Asteroid, Moon Worm, and Waggle. In encounters with multiple Y-Blasters, the overlapping fire lanes can create zones where any movement triggers multiple lasers simultaneously.
