Cardboard Hat

The Cardboard Hat is a common head armor found in The Alley, part of the Cardboard set. It gives +2 Shield but comes with three significant downsides: Fragile (reduced durability), Flammable (vulnerability to fire damage), and Brittle when wet (takes extra damage if the Wet status is applied). That's a lot of conditional weaknesses for a modest Shield value.

The Cardboard set includes six other items and has its own set bonuses, which is the main reason to wear this despite the liabilities. If you're not building around the set, the +2 Shield rarely justifies the exposure. In encounters with fire or water hazards it becomes a real liability.

The Toolbox trinket removes Brittle and Fragile, cutting the three vulnerabilities down to just Flammable and significantly extending the hat's lifespan. In a full Cardboard set run in The Alley where fire and water can be managed, the set bonus justifies accepting the remaining risk. Even with Toolbox, keep a weather eye on Flammable enemies and terrain. The Cardboard Hat is never an unconditional pick, but in a dedicated Cardboard build it's a necessary starting piece.
