Cardboard Mask

The Cardboard Mask is the face armor piece of the Cardboard set, sharing the same risk profile as the Cardboard Hat: +2 Shield with Fragile, Flammable, and Brittle-when-wet downsides. Fire and water hazards are serious threats to any cat wearing it. The main reason to equip it is the Cardboard set bonus, not the Shield value itself.

Three simultaneous vulnerabilities on a single face armor is a significant burden. Fragile means hard hits break it faster than normal. Flammable means fire damage accelerates destruction. Brittle-when-wet means Wet status — from water tiles, enemy abilities, or the Scarf's absence — makes it even more susceptible to shattering mid-fight. In controlled environments away from those hazards, the +2 Shield functions normally.

Only equip Cardboard Mask if you're fully committed to the Cardboard set and need the face slot to activate bonuses. Even then, be aware that all three weaknesses can trigger in the same fight if an enemy uses fire and water attacks. Keep it away from fire zones and wet environments whenever possible. As with all Cardboard pieces, the set bonus is what justifies accepting such fragile protection.
