Entangled
Immobile. Use basic attack to break free.
Entangled is an immobilization debuff that completely prevents movement and replaces the afflicted unit's basic attack with Break Free, which removes 1 Entangled stack when used. This means the unit must spend its attack actions freeing itself rather than dealing damage, effectively consuming both movement and offensive capability for each stack of Entangled applied. Multiple stacks require multiple turns of Break Free to escape.
Entangled has two important removal methods beyond Break Free. Knockback effects remove all Entangled stacks at once, freeing the unit immediately regardless of how many stacks were applied. Burn damage also removes all Entangled stacks, making fire-element attacks a natural counter to vine and plant-based enemies that apply Entangled. These instant removal options are valuable because they bypass the one-stack-per-turn limitation of Break Free.
Entangled has no effect on bosses that are already immobile, since they cannot move regardless. Against player cats and mobile enemies, Entangled is extremely disruptive because it locks down both movement and basic attacks simultaneously. Spells can still be cast while Entangled, making spellcaster cats less affected than melee fighters. When facing enemies that apply Entangled, carrying fire-element abilities or knockback-generating effects provides reliable counterplay. Entangled is functionally similar to Webbed, which uses the same Break Free mechanic and shares the Burn and knockback removal interactions.
