Petrify

It's a rock for {stacks} turns.

Petrify is an earth-element control debuff that causes the afflicted unit to skip its next turn, similar to Stun or Freeze. However, Petrify has unique mechanics that set it apart. While petrified, the unit functions like a Rock: all incoming damage is reduced to 1, attacks against it gain +1 knockback, and contact with the petrified unit deals 5 knockback damage. This makes petrified units both extremely durable and dangerous to interact with physically.

The rock-like properties of petrified units create interesting tactical opportunities. Petrified enemies can be knocked into other enemies to deal knockback damage, using them as projectiles. The +1 knockback on attacks against petrified units makes it easier to send them flying across the battlefield. Petrified units are considered spawned from the applier for mechanical purposes, which triggers effects like the Pet Rocks passive. This interaction makes Petrify-focused builds possible, particularly for classes that can leverage spawned-unit synergies.

Because Petrify reduces all damage to 1, it is counterproductive to petrify an enemy you want to kill quickly through direct damage. Instead, use Petrify to disable secondary threats while focusing your team's damage on non-petrified targets. Alternatively, use the knockback mechanics to slam petrified enemies into walls or allies for positioning advantage. Petrify is associated with the earth element and is applied by earth-element spells and abilities. Its defensive properties make it a double-edged sword that rewards creative use over straightforward application.
