Tarred
Speed decreased by {stacks}. Flammable.
Tarred is a debuff that reduces the afflicted unit's Speed by 2, slowing both its movement range and turn order. The defining characteristic of Tarred is its flammability: when a Tarred unit comes into contact with any fire source, the Tar immediately converts into Burn stacks, dealing fire damage over time. This makes Tarred a dangerous setup condition that can be exploited by fire-element attacks for devastating combo damage.
The Sticky elite buff causes enemies to apply +1 Tarred to anything that contacts or attacks them, making melee engagement against Sticky enemies risky when fire hazards are present. Tar terrain tiles on the battlefield also apply Tarred to units that step on them. The fire conversion mechanic creates a powerful two-step combo: apply Tar first to slow and set up the target, then ignite them with any fire source for amplified Burn damage.
Tarred persists until converted by fire or cleansed by other means. The Speed reduction alone makes Tarred moderately disruptive, but the real danger lies in environmental interactions. In levels with fire terrain, fire-element enemies, or the Flaming elite buff, Tarred becomes significantly more threatening. When your cats are Tarred, avoid moving near fire tiles or fire-element enemies to prevent the conversion to Burn. Conversely, applying Tar to enemies and then hitting them with fire spells creates efficient burst damage windows. Tarred synergizes with Burn-focused builds that want to maximize fire damage application.
