Geomagnetic Storm

Geomagnetic Storm is an environmental weather effect in Mewgenics that floods the battlefield with extra rock objects and causes all rocks to levitate at the end of each round, dealing damage to nearby units. It is especially common in The Crater, a zone known for its rocky, debris-heavy terrain.

The extra rocks spawned by Geomagnetic Storm serve dual purposes. First, they are physical obstacles that block movement and line of sight, reshaping the arena and creating natural cover points. Second, they become damage sources when the levitation event triggers at the end of each round. Any unit standing adjacent to a rock when it levitates takes damage, which means positioning near rocks is inherently risky.

This creates an unusual tactical dynamic where the safest positions on the map shift every round based on where rocks are located. You need to track rock positions and ensure your cats are not adjacent to them when the round ends. This is especially challenging in arenas with high rock density, where safe tiles may be limited.

The offensive potential of Geomagnetic Storm is significant for knockback-focused teams. Pushing an enemy into a rock cluster means they take knockback damage on impact and then levitation damage at end of round. If the enemy is surrounded by multiple rocks, the levitation damage can stack, making a single knockback push deal far more total damage than the displacement itself.

Abilities that create or destroy terrain objects interact interestingly with Geomagnetic Storm. Creating additional rocks adds more levitation hazards, while destroying rocks removes them. Rock-themed abilities that are normally situational become much more effective when the arena is full of extra rocks to work with.

Geomagnetic Storm can appear in any biome but is most commonly encountered in The Crater. It rewards spatial awareness and punishes static positioning near terrain objects.
