Spinnerette Boss Guide

Overview

Spinnerette is the final boss of The Caves branch of Act 1 and one of the most mechanically complex fights available early in Mewgenics. The encounter begins with a deceivingly weak One Baby Spider whose defeat immediately summons Spinnerette with 250 HP. She has three distinct phases, each introducing new mechanics that require real adaptation. Clearing The Caves with a given class marks it as complete for that class, potentially unlocking new class abilities.

Phase 1: Webs and Spiderlings

Web Cocooning

Spinnerette shoots webs at your cats that cocoon them in place. A cocooned cat cannot move or use abilities until they spend a basic attack action breaking free. This wastes turns and delays healing or support abilities at critical moments. Avoid bunching cats together in a single tile cluster, as multiple webs can hit the same area.

Spiderling Burrowing

Spiderlings spawn continuously and attempt to burrow into your cats. A burrowed spiderling lies dormant until that cat dies, at which point it erupts from the corpse and destroys the body, preventing any revival mechanics from working on that cat. Prioritise killing spiderlings quickly before they can burrow, and try not to let any cat reach critical HP while burrowed.

Backstab Penalty

Attacking Spinnerette from behind grants her a movement and attack buff rather than a bonus to you. This is the opposite of most bosses. Always approach from the front or sides.

Phase 2: Ceiling Retreat

When Spinnerette’s HP drops sufficiently, she retreats to the ceiling and becomes temporarily untargetable. She spawns a new spider kitten on the arena floor. You must kill this kitten to bring Spinnerette back down. This phase is a board-control reset: use the time to clear any remaining spiderlings and reposition your cats before she descends again.

A balanced melee and ranged team is ideal. Pure ranged has trouble targeting spiderlings that burrow into melee-range cats. Pure melee struggles with web cocooning blocking movement. A Cleric is especially valuable for healing cocooned cats and managing sustained damage over the multi-phase fight.

Step-by-Step Strategy

1. Ensure your team is fully healed before killing One Baby Spider to trigger the fight.

2. In Phase 1, prioritise spiderling kills over boss damage. A spiderling in a cat is a ticking time bomb that destroys your revive options.

3. Break webs immediately using basic attacks. A cocooned healer during a spiderling burst phase can end the run.

4. Always attack Spinnerette from the front or side. Never approach from behind.

5. When she retreats to the ceiling, kill the new kitten promptly. Use the brief reprieve to heal and regroup.

6. In the final damage phase, apply your strongest remaining abilities. She does not gain dramatically new mechanics at low HP, so consistent focused damage finishes the fight.
