Cactus Set

The Cactus Set turns the destruction of armor into a permanent stat gain — every time a Cactus piece breaks, all your stats increase by 1 forever. Combined with the +2 Thorns from wearing the set, enemies who attack you take damage, hastening your pieces' eventual destruction and accelerating your stat gains. The ideal strategy is to build around deliberately cycling through Cactus pieces for maximum stat snowball.

Cactus Set pieces include Cactus Hat (Head), Cactus Necklace (Neck), and Cactus Mask (Face). All three occupy armor slots. The 3-piece bonus grants +2 Thorns and the unique per-piece break mechanic: whenever any Cactus armor piece shatters from taking damage, every one of your stats permanently increases by 1. This is cumulative — break 3 pieces over a run and gain +3 to all stats.

Cactus Set rewards a deliberate playstyle: equip the pieces, let them break from enemy hits or Thorns feedback, harvest the stat gains, then replace them if possible. The Thorns retribution encourages enemies to target you, accelerating breakage. In longer runs where you can cycle multiple sets of Cactus gear, the permanent stat gains add up significantly. Combine with the Recycled Set's rare-item-on-break mechanic for bonus loot on top of the stat gains, or with the Gimp Set's on-damage stat gains for maximum damage-harvesting builds.
