Overview
Magnus is an Alley miniboss who represents the Fighter class. He specialises in aggressive gap-closing with his Chain Dash and a Spin attack that hits all adjacent units. If Magnus singles out a cat, he will repeatedly charge them over and over, dealing enough damage to injure most classes permanently. Immobilisation effects are particularly devastating against him because his entire kit revolves around movement.
Key Mechanics
Chain Dash
Magnus must be lined up with an opponent before rushing toward them and attacking. After hitting one target, he immediately dashes in another direction toward a new opponent and attacks again. This repeats until he misses or there is no new target in his path. A linear formation lets Magnus hit every cat in a single chain, so always spread your party diagonally or in a staggered layout.
Spin
Magnus rotates extremely fast and hits everybody adjacent to him 3 times for low damage per hit. While each hit is small, the total across 3 hits on multiple cats adds up, especially if your party is clustered.
Strategy
1. Never line up your cats in a straight row or column. Chain Dash follows cardinal lines, so a staggered or diagonal formation prevents multi-target chains.
2. Immobilisation abilities (Entangle, bear traps, Stun) are extremely effective. Since Magnus is built entirely around his dash, locking him in place wastes his turns and removes his primary threat. Bear traps are especially useful since his predictable dashing habits make him easy to lure into them.
3. Use a tank as a dash absorber. If your tank is positioned to intercept the first hit of a Chain Dash, Magnus may not reach your squishier cats behind them.
4. Ranged attackers can chip Magnus safely between dashes. Hunter and Mage deal solid damage during his brief repositioning windows without ever being in Spin range.
