Overview
Pyrophina is an enormous fire-breathing kaiju cat with reddish-pink scales who invades your home hub as one of the two House Bosses in Act 2. She appears after you progress past Guillotina's encounters. Her defining mechanic is arena-wide fire attacks that cover large sections of the board with burning terrain and lava. If not properly managed, the fire will immolate your entire party. Defeating her individually is also required before the Pyrophina vs Zaratana encounter can trigger.
Key Mechanics
Arena-Wide Fire and Lava
Pyrophina's signature attacks spread burning terrain and lava across the board. Burn tiles deal damage to any cat standing on them at the end of the round. Multiple fires can ignite simultaneously, rapidly narrowing the safe tile count. Her Volcano Stomp creates fire at the edges of the battlefield, and she can create rings of fire that close in. Keeping the fires under control through Water and Earth elements is paramount for survival.
Burn Status
Cats hit directly by Pyrophina's fire attacks may receive the Burn status effect, which deals damage-over-time on top of any tile-based fire damage. A cat taking fire tile damage and burning simultaneously takes heavy passive damage per round.
Preparation
Bring Water element items or abilities to this fight. The Old Hose is especially useful: use it every turn to create water tiles and extinguish fire on your team. If you create water tiles around the edges of the arena, it effectively neutralizes Volcano Stomp. Earth element spells can also put out fires by converting fire tiles into dirt, creating safe spots. Because she is a home boss, you cannot bring in-run items; rely entirely on cat abilities, class skills, and permanent home upgrades.
Strategy
1. Identify fire-safe tiles each round before moving. Safe tiles are those not currently on fire and not in the spread path of Pyrophina's current attack animation.
2. Use Water abilities (Old Hose, Wet-inflicting skills) to create water tiles and extinguish fires proactively. Placing water at arena edges neutralizes Volcano Stomp.
3. Keep cats spread across multiple safe zones rather than clustering. Fire AoE targets dense positions preferentially.
4. Assign a dedicated burn-cleanser or high-HP tank to absorb any unavoidable fire hits. Getting a glass-cannon cat caught in a fire sweep is usually fatal.
5. Deal sustained damage between her fire breath animations. Like most kaiju bosses, Pyrophina has brief repositioning windows between major attacks where she is vulnerable to focused DPS.
After Defeating Pyrophina
After both Pyrophina and Zaratana are defeated individually, a cutscene plays where the two kaiju meet and begin fighting, tumbling toward your house. This triggers the Pyrophina vs Zaratana encounter, where both kaiju attack each other while you avoid the crossfire. Whichever kaiju survives joins you as an ally.
