Evolving is one of the most unpredictable elite buffs. At the end of each round, the Evolving elite gains a random additional elite buff, stacking new modifiers on top of whatever it already has. The enemy has a purple-magenta tint and a lava distortion effect. After several rounds, an Evolving elite can accumulate multiple buffs like Tough, Damaging, Speedy, and Shielded simultaneously, becoming exponentially more dangerous as the fight drags on.
Evolving punishes slow, cautious play styles extremely hard. Every round you spend not killing the Evolving elite is another random buff added to its arsenal. By round 3 or 4, the elite might have Damaging, Tough, and Lucky stacked together, creating a critical-hitting, damage-reducing, hard-hitting nightmare. The randomness means you cannot predict what combination will emerge, making preparation difficult. Evolving on high-health enemies is particularly terrifying because the prolonged fight guarantees multiple stacked buffs.
Kill Evolving elites as fast as humanly possible. This is the highest-priority target in any room, period. Every round it survives makes the fight harder. Front-load all your burst damage, burn cooldowns, and focus fire to eliminate it before it stacks more than one or two additional buffs. If you cannot kill it quickly, assess the buffs it gains each round and adapt, but the fundamental strategy is always speed. Classes with high burst damage like the Berserker, Psychic, or Mage should target the Evolving elite exclusively until it is dead.
