The Brute is a hulking enemy found in The Core and The Rift with 20 HP, 5 damage, and 2 movement in its regular form (40 HP, 6 damage, 3 movement as a Champion). It is completely immune to fire damage and Burn status effects, which makes it one of the hardest enemies to deal with in The Core where fire-based abilities are common. Internally referred to as "Big Demon," the Brute is one of the most dangerous non-boss enemies in the late game.
The Brute has a split behavior based on target health that makes it especially lethal. When engaging cats above 50% HP, it performs a powerful uppercut attack. When a cat drops below 50% HP, the Brute switches to a kill-focused execution attack that instantly eliminates the weakened target. At range, it throws rocks with a chance to inflict Stun, giving it the ability to disable party members from a distance before closing in for the finish.
The critical priority against a Brute is never letting any cat fall below 50% HP while the Brute is alive, as the instant kill is unavoidable once triggered. Healing wounded cats immediately or pulling them out of the Brute's range is essential. Since fire damage is completely wasted, focus on physical, electric, or poison-based attacks. Its slow movement (2 tiles) is exploitable with kiting and knockback, but beware of its rock throws that can Stun from range and set up the execution combo. In encounters with multiple Brutes, managing health thresholds across your entire party becomes the central challenge.
