Overview
Tormentor is the second phase of The Coven boss encounter in The Core region. After The Coven completes its ritual and all four bodies have risen, it summons the Tormentor, who then kills The Coven and becomes the real threat. The Tormentor's power scales directly with how many candles from The Coven's pentagram were left burning: each unextinguished candle grants the Tormentor additional abilities and buffs.
Key Mechanics
Candle-Based Power Scaling
The Tormentor's difficulty depends entirely on how well you handled The Coven's candle phase. Each lit candle remaining when the Tormentor spawns grants it a unique additional ability. If you extinguished all candles during The Coven fight, the Tormentor arrives with minimal power and is relatively straightforward. If all five candles were lit, the Tormentor is an overwhelming threat with extra turns, enhanced damage, and additional mechanics.
Feast (Cone Instant Death)
The Tormentor's signature attack is Feast, a cone-shaped wide-area instant death ability that activates at the end of the round. Any cat caught in the cone when Feast triggers is killed instantly. Positioning to stay outside the cone's range is critical every round. Watch for the telegraphed cone direction and move all cats out of the affected area before the round ends.
Strategy
1. The best strategy for Tormentor begins during The Coven fight. Extinguish as many candles as possible using Water or Wind abilities to minimize the Tormentor's power when it spawns.
2. Every round, identify the Feast cone telegraph and move all cats out of range before the round ends. This takes absolute priority over dealing damage.
3. Enter with full HP and a reliable healing source. If the Tormentor has candle-granted status effects (bleed, poison, burn), having a cleanse ability prevents passive damage from accumulating.
4. Deal consistent DPS between Feast telegraphs rather than saving everything for a burst window. Prolonging the fight against a status-inflicting boss amplifies the debuff damage you take.
5. Position your tankiest cat between the Tormentor and your support units during non-Feast rounds. Spread your team to avoid multiple cats being caught in the cone simultaneously.
