Crater Maker

Crater Maker is the final boss of The Crater in Act 2, a massive 280 HP creature that occupies a 3x3 tile footprint with permanent Trample. Her entire fight revolves around a rotating attack cycle that the player can manipulate by dealing damage at the right times. Understanding and controlling this cycle is the difference between a manageable fight and a catastrophic wipe, making Crater Maker one of the most mechanics-driven boss encounters in the game.

Crater Maker takes two turns per round: on her first turn she moves toward your cats and primes an attack, then executes it on her second turn. She has four attacks in a fixed rotation. Crater Howl damages every other unit and inflicts Stun or Immobile. Consume targets one tile in front of her mouth and instantly kills any cat standing there when it activates. Pukewave hits in a 2x2 diagonal pattern, turning all affected tiles into Creep. She also shoots from her sides whenever she takes damage, punishing poorly positioned attackers. The critical mechanic: every time you damage her, she shifts to the next attack in her rotation. Damage-over-time effects do not rotate the cycle, only direct hits do.

The key strategy is to rotate her away from dangerous attacks (especially Consume, which is an instant kill) and toward less threatening ones by landing precisely timed hits. Having melee attackers strike from behind is effective because it can rotate her into using Consume on empty tiles. DoT effects like Bleed and Poison are excellent because they deal damage without rotating her cycle, providing sustained pressure while you control the attack order. On defeat, Crater Maker can drop the Friendly Amoeba and Alien Stalk head accessories. Keep your team spread to avoid Crater Howl stunning multiple cats at once, and never leave a cat directly in front of her mouth unless you are certain Consume is not the primed attack.
