Boris Boss Guide

Overview

Boris is a giant sludge creature and a possible final boss of The Sewers. He has a large HP pool and a dangerous counter mechanic: every time you attack him, he retaliates. Against a fragile or ability-hungry team, the constant retaliation quickly spirals into a death loop. Boris rewards calculated aggression over spam attacking and punishes glass-cannon builds that lack healing.

Key Mechanics

Counter Attack

Boris retaliates whenever he is attacked. This applies to basic attacks, most abilities, and multi-hit skills. The retaliation damage is not enormous per hit, but if you have four cats each attacking Boris twice a round, that is eight retaliation procs every round. Without a healer, this constant chip damage will eliminate your cats one by one.

High HP Pool

Boris is a war of attrition. You cannot burst him down before his counters add up. The fight will last many rounds, so every healing cooldown and sustain tool you have should be managed carefully rather than spent in the first two rounds.

A Cleric or any reliable healing ability is almost mandatory. Ranged attackers are safer since some counter mechanics only apply to physical melee hits. Abilities that deal guaranteed damage in limited bursts are better than classes that rely on many small hits per round. A tank is useful for absorbing retaliation hits that would otherwise one-shot fragile classes.

Step-by-Step Strategy

1. Lead with your tankiest cat and have the healer ready to sustain them through retaliation.

2. Pace your attacks. Rather than having every cat dump their full action economy into Boris, spread damage across turns to reduce how many retaliation procs happen in a single round.

3. Use abilities that deal high single-hit damage rather than abilities that hit multiple times. Multi-hit attacks trigger multiple counters.

4. Once Boris drops below half HP, apply any remaining damage cooldowns. His behaviour does not change dramatically at low health, but finishing the fight quickly reduces total retaliation exposure.

Drops

Boris drops random Sewers loot on defeat. Clearing him opens the path to either The Caves or The Boneyard, completing the Sewers branch of Act 1.
