Boss
Boris
Giant sludge creature with large HP. Counter mechanic — retaliates when attacked. Snowballs hard against fragile teams. Attrition-focused fight.
Boris is the final boss of The Sewers in Act 1, a grotesquely bloated cat with 200 HP (240 in Champion form) who serves as one of the toughest early-game skill checks. Unlike most bosses that rely on complex attack patterns, Boris is a brute-force threat whose entire kit revolves around Trample: he permanently has the Trample status, automatically moving 1 tile toward whatever last damaged him. His 0 ATK stat is deceptive, because his damage comes entirely from his movement-based Trample Dash, which can devastate poorly positioned teams.
Boris takes four turns per round. On the first three turns, he moves toward whatever last damaged him, trampling anything in his path. On his final turn, he performs a Trample Dash, charging in a cardinal direction until hitting a wall or static object, inflicting damage and knockback on every unit in his path. This dash is his most dangerous ability, capable of hitting your entire team if they are lined up. The key to the fight is controlling who Boris targets and ensuring your team is never aligned in a cardinal line from his position. Spreading your cats to opposite corners of the arena forces Boris to waste turns shuffling between targets.
Immobile is the single strongest counter to Boris, disabling everything he can do except his dash. Stun and Sleep also shut down his movement-on-damage trigger. Ranged attackers are essential since melee units risk getting trampled immediately after hitting him. A recommended team composition is Fighter, Hunter, Tank, and Cleric for a balanced mix of damage, range, and sustain. Damage-over-time effects like Poison and Bleed are particularly effective because they deal damage without triggering his movement response. On defeat, Boris drops Blubber (a Neck accessory granting +7 Constitution but -5 Speed and -2 Charisma) and Boris' Brain (a Head accessory that grants the Trample effect to your own cat), both fitting rewards from this lumbering adversary.
