How to Unlock All Areas in Mewgenics
Date Published
Act 1
Act 1 areas form the initial progression chain. You'll work through these during your first several hours with the game.
The Alley
Unlocked by default. This is where every run begins. Get familiar with the basics here before pushing deeper.
The Sewers
Requirement: Complete The Alley for the first time.
A straightforward unlock — clear The Alley once and The Sewers opens up.
The Caves
Requirement: Complete The Sewers for the first time.
Same deal. Beat The Sewers, gain access to The Caves.
The Junkyard
Requirement: Complete the hard path of The Alley for the first time.
The hard path won't be available until after your first completion of The Caves. Once you've beaten The Caves at least once, return to The Alley and take the hard path to unlock The Junkyard.
The Boneyard
Requirement: Complete The Junkyard once.
The Throbbing Domain
Requirement: Clear the flesh wall in The Caves and the vein wall in The Boneyard, then sacrifice a cat at the altar inside.
This is Act 1's hidden area and the first real unlock puzzle in the game. Here's the process:
- Remove the flesh wall at the end of The Caves. You can do this by passing the strength check, or by bringing the item dropped by Guillotina 1.
- Remove the vein wall at the end of The Boneyard. Same approach — pass the strength check or use the item from Guillotina 2.
- Sacrifice a cat at the altar inside. Yes, you'll lose a cat permanently. Only after the sacrifice does the full area unlock.
Act 2
Act 2 opens up once you've cleared the main Act 1 areas. The unlock paths start branching here, and two areas — The Rift in particular — require elaborate multi-step quest chains.
The Desert
Requirement: Complete both The Boneyard and The Caves once each.
The Bunker
Requirement: Complete The Desert for the first time.
The Crater
Requirement: Complete The Desert for the first time.
Both The Bunker and The Crater unlock simultaneously after your first Desert clear — they're parallel paths forward.
The Moon
Requirement: Complete The Crater for the first time.
The Core
Requirement: Complete The Bunker for the first time.
The Rift
Requirement: Activate both obelisks and bring a kaiju collar to the correct location.
The Rift is Act 2's hidden area and the most complex unlock in the game. It involves defeating both kaiju bosses and completing a chain of item-delivery objectives. Here's the full breakdown:
Step 1: Activate the First Obelisk
- Defeat Pyrophina (the fire kaiju). She drops an item called the Scalding Orb.
- Bring the Scalding Orb through Act 2 to the Man in the Moon.
- Feed the Man in the Moon the orb by letting the cat with it equipped get eaten. This activates the first obelisk.
Step 2: Activate the Second Obelisk
- Defeat Zaratana (the beast that invades after you complete The Moon). She drops the Black Shard.
- The Black Shard starts at 1 power. It gains +1 power each time you absorb an enemy whose health is equal to or lower than the shard's current power. Junk and poop on the battlefield count as valid absorb targets — take whatever you can get.
- Once the shard reaches 20 power, it becomes the Glowing Black Shard. If it's at 10+ power, running The Core is a good way to finish powering it up since you'll encounter plenty of absorbable enemies along the way.
- Bring the Glowing Black Shard to The Core and have the equipped cat use it on The Coven (the final boss). This activates the second obelisk.
Step 3: Get the Kaiju Collar
- After defeating both kaiju, they'll eventually appear at your house fighting each other.
- This fight ends when only one is defeated — the surviving kaiju gives you their collar.
- The collar lets you bring that kaiju along on runs and is the final key to The Rift.
Step 4: Open The Rift
- Bring the collared kaiju through a run to the location their collar specifies (for Zaratana, this is The Core).
- At the destination, a new "Activate" option (marked with an exclamation mark) appears at the obelisk.
- Select it. After a cutscene, The Rift unlocks.
Note: The specific steps may vary slightly depending on which kaiju (Pyrophina or Zaratana) you defeat first in the dual fight. The core process remains the same.
Act 3
Act 3 is the endgame. It opens after clearing both endpoints of Act 2 and involves time travel — because of course it does.
The Lab
Requirement: Complete both The Core and The Moon once each.
The Ice Age
Requirement: Complete a multi-step quest involving the Cryogenic Time Chamber.
- Complete The Lab for the first time and return home.
- Talk to Dr. Beanies from the map. He gives you the Cryogenic Time Chamber.
- Bring the chamber through Act 1 all the way to The Throbbing Domain.
- Defeat The Throbbing King as normal. His heart fuels the chamber.
- Bring the powered chamber to the end of The Lab. A "Repair" option appears at the time chamber event.
- Select Repair — you'll immediately be transported to The Ice Age.
The Jurassic
Requirement: Complete The Ice Age for the first time.
The Future
Requirement: Complete The Jurassic for the first time.
The End
Requirement: Complete The Future for the first time.

Tips for Efficient Progression
- Don't rush the hard paths. The Junkyard hard-path requirement means you need to clear The Caves first anyway. Focus on building a strong team through normal progression before tackling hard mode.
- Keep expendable cats on hand. The Throbbing Domain requires a permanent cat sacrifice. Don't send your best breeder to the altar.
- The Rift is a marathon, not a sprint. Between powering up the Black Shard, feeding the Man in the Moon, and the kaiju house fight, expect The Rift unlock to take multiple runs across several in-game days.
- The Ice Age quest spans three zones. You'll need to carry the Cryogenic Time Chamber from home through all of Act 1 and then back through The Lab. Plan your party composition for a long haul.
